I scream, you scream, we all scream for Dunbri’s Dessert Café in the Haymarket Village Center! Hey, it’s me, your host, Lesley Salman (of Salman Home Realty) with my co-host, the wonderfully talented Tiereny Tompkins (you may remember her from our episode on JD the Barber).
Let me start by saying – your dentist is going to hate Dunbris and if you love sweets, you’re going to LOVE this place.
Owners Karen and Graham Maclean sat down with us to give us an “inside scoop” (ice cream pun intended) on how the concept of Dunbri’s came about. They moved to Haymarket four years ago after falling in love with the area. When they found the location up for grabs, they thought a dessert cafe would be an awesome way to add a little flavor to Haymarket.
So – what about the name? Karen is from a town called Bridge of Allan and Graham is from Dunblane. Take the “Dun” from Dunblane and “Bri” from Bridge of Allan and you get the quirky name “Dunbri’s.” A pretty sweet story we think. But Dunbri’s isn’t your typical dessert cafe. Karen and Graham felt it was important to bring their culture to our little corner of Virginia with British and Scottish inspired desserts and sweets. And these sweets are *actually* from Britain and Scotland – they’re shipped to Dunbri’s once a month – awesome.
What’d we try during our trip to Dunbri’s? Well it was all amazing, but if you’re looking to take our word for it, here’s what we tasted (they sell actual lunch sandwiches too!):
